Mountainz.co.nz invites all mountaineers to share
their alpine adventures.
We want your trip reports, photos, opinion pieces, new routing news, gear and technique articles, and humorous and philosophical musings.
And yes, we want something from everyone, whether you're on the south face of
Hicks or it's your first time up Ruapehu. Actually, my first time up Ruapehu was
my scariest climb...
Climbs don't necessarily have to be recent as we're keen to build a comprehensive
archive for all New Zealand regions.
We also invite you to use the forum to post and find conditions updates and trip reports, to find
climbing partners, have a rant, and ask questions of the climbing community.

the fame and glory you deserve.
The Mountainz Team

Fraser Crichton
Fraser claims to be a Kiwi though he is originally from Scotland. Climbs intermittently on rock, ice and in the mountains. Mutters about retiring, but continues to take photos of steep bits of ice. Was involved in a bar brawl in Canmore. Can recommend a few bars in the Highlands of Scotland. Likes snow and scribbling. Thinks his new home is a pretty special place. Fraser joined the Mountainz team as co-editor in January 2011.

Francesca Eldridge
Francesca fell head-over-heels for Fiordland while working in Milford Sound in her early 20s, embarking on solo wanders and summer climbs in the Darran Mountains and surrounds. Despite her dislike of early starts and cold weather, she moved on to winter and spring climbing on the North Island's volcanoes, at Aoraki Mt Cook, Arthur's Pass and on the West Coast neves. Francesca became Mountainz editor in February 2008, and now shares this role with Fraser. She is proud to have pioneered a method of making pizza while in an alpine hut.

Glenn Pennycook
Glenn co-founded Mountainz with Alexander Scherbakov in 2004. A product of National Women's Hospital in the mid-70s, Glenn spent his early climbing career on Mount Ruapehu, then heard a rumour there were bigger things down south. His interests are winter climbing, helicopter access and mountains close to huts. Glenn's major achievements were mostly first winter ascents in the Southern Alps. Fortunately for Glenn, mountains are not made of overhanging plastic holds.

Alexander Scherbakov
Alexander co-founded Mountainz with Glenn in 2004. He has lived in New Zealand since 1999 and been climbing since the late '70s.
Alexander did most of his climbing in Central Asia, the Caucasus and Crimea and his achievements include Peak 4810, Asan, Slesova, Bodhona, Peak Lenina,
Kommunizma, Ushba, Elbrus, and Shelda. He received a 'Master of Sport of Russia' in 1996.
